Martha keeps her word and comes to talk to Lizzie alone. They have a long talk where Martha explains that Lizzie must stop picking on people otherwise Martha will turn the whole school against her. Lizzie begs for forgiveness, but Martha just turns around and walks away. 

The rest of the school year Lizzie spends terrified of Martha. She barely passes her subjects. Martha forms a group of friends, that most of the people are scared to look wrong at.
